Northwind 47 - Designed for Safety and Adventure
Designed by Italian Marcello Penna and built in Barcelona, Spain, the Northwind 47 is a capable and seaworthy sailing vessel. Launched in 1990, it has a proven track record sailing as far from Sweden to New Zealand, showcasing its reliability and safety on long voyages. Heavily overbuilt, she is one of the safest 47 foot monohulls in service. All hardware, the hull, and standing rigging could serve on a boat twice her size.
SV Malla is rigged a staysail sloop. The sail plan is a furling main, genoa, and staysail, with a sock gennaker flown off the bowsprit. Her rig is overbuilt and fit to accomodate strong winds. A spinnaker pole allows for a wing on wing configuration and to fly the gennaker as a traditional spinnaker.
